about
Formed in Los Angeles in late 1978, Bpeople were one of the West Coast’s leading postpunk groups, forging a dark and driving brand of cutting edge music. The band’s early 80’s line-up solidified with Alex Gibson on guitar and vocals, Fredrik Nilsen on bass, Tom Recchion on drums, and Pat Delaney on synthesizer and saxophone, recording their debut 7” EP for Faulty Products in 1981. You At Eight, the title track from that EP, is featured here on Source in an alternate mix that has never previously been released.
Paul B. Cutler joined the band for their 6-song self-titled mini album released later in 1981, and contributed to further recordings that saw release on several compilation LPs and the 1986 Petrified Conditions retrospective LP. Singer/guitarist Alex Gibson later released an album and several EPs as Passionel, and scored Penelope Spheeris’ punk film Suburbia, while Fredrik Nilsen and Tom Recchion were (and still are) involved with numerous groups within the Los Angeles Free Music Society collective. Gibson and Recchion also contributed to several songs on the 1981 album Painless Nights by San Francisco postpunk group The Sleepers. Pat Delaney was heavily involved with the more experimental corners of the original Los Angeles punk scene, recording and playing with Deadbeats, Black Randy, Geza X, and later with The Romans, while Paul B. Cutler later worked with 45 Grave and Dream Syndicate, and was guitarist in early Phoenix, AZ punk band The Consumers. Independent Project Records is currently working with Bpeople to compile a definitive retrospective of the band’s early 1980's output, which is expected to see release sometime in 2022.

Beautifully crafted tracks with a lot of heart. So happy they were reissued on vinyl with the IPR work of art packaging and available for streaming here on BC. Thanks Half String! slowdive_fan

First off I’m unbelievably excited this recording exists. Bonus is this label rules. So much care put into the packaging, fair pricing, postcards, and the ever important handwritten thanks. Peace, love, and take care. Your efforts on this document are greatly appreciated! popetones
