about
Forging a solid reputation within the Los Angeles post-punk community of the early 1980s, Savage Republic blended tribal percussion, industrial drones, Middle-eastern & Greek melodies and raga-like guitar lines to craft a singular sound. In early 1983 the group started work on new material, recording a handful of demos to present to the US branch of the Rough Trade label who had expressed interest in the band. This song was one of those demo recordings, and while a studio version of the song was later released on the 17 Pygmies LP Jedda By The Sea (re-titled Last Grave
At Dimbaza) this version sat unreleased until early 2020, when it was included on the Tape Excavation LP co-released by IPR and the P22 Type Foundry in conjunction with P22's publishing of the Savage Impressions book featuring 40 years of creative work by Bruce Licher’s Independent Project Records & Press. IPR is preparing to release the Tape Excavation album on CD and digital in the coming year.
Beautifully crafted tracks with a lot of heart. So happy they were reissued on vinyl with the IPR work of art packaging and available for streaming here on BC. Thanks Half String! slowdive_fan
First off I’m unbelievably excited this recording exists. Bonus is this label rules. So much care put into the packaging, fair pricing, postcards, and the ever important handwritten thanks. Peace, love, and take care. Your efforts on this document are greatly appreciated! popetones
