about
Makers of what Uncut Magazine editor Allan Jones called “…timeless, brilliant music”, and described by Allmusic as “a powerful and graceful band too post-punk to be folk-rock and too folk-rock to be post-punk”, Shiva Burlesque was founded by transplanted Northern Californians Jeffrey Clark and Grant-Lee Phillips, (formerly of the Torn Boys; see Track 16), and emerged out of the alternative music scene of subterranean Hollywood/Downtown Los Angeles in the mid-1980’s. The band released a pair of vivid, multi-facetedalbums, each of which connected deeply with tuned-in listeners and garnered rave reviews, both Stateside and in Europe; before disbanding in late 1990, (thereby midwifing the excellent Grant Lee Buffalo). Offered here is the original “Pre-Bolanite” demo recording of Chrome Halo, a song later revised and released on the second Shiva Burlesque album Mercury Blues.

Beautifully crafted tracks with a lot of heart. So happy they were reissued on vinyl with the IPR work of art packaging and available for streaming here on BC. Thanks Half String! slowdive_fan

First off I’m unbelievably excited this recording exists. Bonus is this label rules. So much care put into the packaging, fair pricing, postcards, and the ever important handwritten thanks. Peace, love, and take care. Your efforts on this document are greatly appreciated! popetones
