Scenic is the group formed by Savage Republic and Independent Project Records founder Bruce Licher in 1992, when he was joined by former Shiva Burlesque bassist James Brenner and drummer Brock Wirtz. Scenic's debut album Incident At Cima (scheduled for an expanded re-issue on IPR in September of 2021) was conceived as an all-instrumental soundtrack for the East Mojave Desert, and succeeded in creating a music that is unlike anything else in the musical landscape. Scenic specializes in creating evocative aural journeys, and this demo recording of the song Above The Rim was recorded circa 1998 in preparation for an album intended to be a soundtrack for the Kaiparowits Plateau area just north of Lake Powell in southern Utah. While that album project was never completed, this is one of four songs that were recorded as full band demos, which were made available on a very limited tour CDr in 2003 titled The Nimbus EP. Independent Project Records is planning to include those four songs on an upcoming Scenic rarities compilation album titled Atmospheres in 2022.
